Laravel upgrade planner

Laravel is upgraded one major version at a time. Choose your current version to see every step to Laravel 13, the PHP version each step needs and the main changes to plan for.

Plan your upgrade

Upgrading from Laravel 10 to Laravel 13 takes 3 steps. You will need to upgrade PHP from 8.2 to 8.3 or newer along the way.

  1. Laravel 10 to 11 needs PHP 8.2+

    • PHP 8.2 is the minimum
    • Changing a column in a migration must restate all of its attributes
    • Carbon 3 and the optional slimmer application structure
  2. Laravel 11 to 12 needs PHP 8.2+

    • Few breaking changes
    • Carbon 2 support is dropped
    • HasUuids models use ordered UUIDv7 by default
  3. Laravel 12 to 13 needs PHP 8.3+

    • PHP 8.3 is the minimum
    • CSRF protection is formalised as PreventRequestForgery with origin checks
    • First-party Laravel AI SDK, JSON:API resources and vector search

Notes summarise the main changes in each official upgrade guide. Your application may have others, especially from third-party packages.
